Who we are

Drylining Peterborough is a professional dry lining and interior fit-out company based in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire. We work with homeowners, landlords, developers, and commercial clients across the East of England — from St Ives and Huntingdon in the south to Spalding and Holbeach in the north, and from Stamford in the west across to Wisbech and March in the Fens.

Our team has extensive experience in all aspects of dry lining, plastering, metal stud partitioning, suspended ceilings, MF ceilings, rendering, floor screeding, and fire stopping. Whether it is a single-room renovation in a Victorian terrace in central Peterborough or a multi-room commercial fit-out in one of the city's business parks, we deliver the same level of care and attention to detail on every project.

We believe in doing the job right the first time. That means turning up when we say we will, working cleanly, protecting floors and furniture, and leaving your property tidy. Most of our work in Cambridgeshire comes through recommendation: previous clients, builders, architects, and a small group of local estate agents who refer us when their buyers need fast, reliable dry lining.

Our history in Cambridgeshire

We started in 2014 as a two-person dry lining team working on small residential projects in PE1 and PE3. By 2017 we had grown to six operatives and were taking on commercial fit-outs around Lynch Wood, Fengate and Orton Southgate. Today the team is a mix of long-standing Cambridgeshire tradesmen and newer CSCS-registered recruits, with supervisors who have been with the company for five or more years.

We have completed work in most postcodes across Cambridgeshire, from Victorian terraces in central Peterborough to new-build estates in Hampton, Paston, Great Haddon and Stanground, and from stone cottages in Stamford to 1960s bungalows in March and Wisbech. The same supervisor who quoted your job is the one who turns up to do the work — no subcontracting, no last-minute changes.

Qualifications and accreditations

CSCS

All operatives on site hold a current CSCS card (Construction Skills Certification Scheme). Operatives are tested on health & safety, working at height, manual handling and the relevant trade.

SMSTS

Site supervisors hold SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme) or SSSTS (Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme) for sites of any size.

£1M Public Liability

Every project is covered by £1 million public liability insurance as standard, with £10 million employer's liability. We are happy to share certificates with you before work starts.

Asbestos Awareness

Operatives hold UKATA asbestos awareness training. Any pre-2000 property in Cambridgeshire may have asbestos in artex ceilings, floor tiles or insulation boards. We test before disturbing and sign off with a clearance certificate.

Where we work

We are based in Peterborough and cover all of Cambridgeshire, plus selected towns just over the county boundary (Stamford, Oundle, Thrapston, Spalding). The postcode groups we cover most often:

  • PE1, PE2, PE3, PE4 — Peterborough city centre, Orton, Woodston, Dogsthorpe, Longthorpe, Upton, Fletton, Bretton, Werrington, Paston, Walton, Castor, Ailsworth, Marholm
  • PE5–PE11 — Werrington, Glinton, Northborough, Deeping St James, Market Deeping, Baston, Langtoft
  • PE12–PE19 — Spalding, Holbeach, Long Sutton, Donington, Crowland, Moulton
  • PE26–PE29 — Ramsey, Whittlesey, Sawtry, Stilton, Yaxley, Stilton
  • PE15–PE16 — March, Chatteris, Wimblington, Doddington
  • PE13–PE14 — Wisbech, Leverington, Parson Drove, Gorefield
  • PE7 — Peterborough (Hampton, Yaxley, Whittlesey outskirts)
  • PE8–PE10 — Oundle, Weldon, Corby, Thrapston, Raunds
  • PE6 — Peterborough (Newborough, Peakirk, Northborough)
  • PE4 — Peterborough (Werrington, Gunthorpe)

Travel time and material delivery across our patch are rarely an issue. Most lead times for standard 12.5mm Gyproc plasterboard, 15mm FireLine and Knauf Soundboard are 24–48 hours from Travis Perkins (Peterborough, St Neots) or Jewson (Huntingdon, Stamford).

Working in Cambridgeshire

Dry lining in Peterborough and across Cambridgeshire typically costs £25–£45 per m² for residential work and £22–£40 per m² for commercial — about 10% below the UK national average. Local day rates for dry lining operatives run £160–£220, compared with £250–£350 in London and the South East. We pass that regional saving on through tighter quotes.

Building control in Cambridgeshire is administered by Cambridgeshire County Council and the unitary City of Peterborough, with district councils covering South Cambridgeshire, Huntingdonshire, East Cambridgeshire and Fenland. Domestic alterations typically attract building control fees of £150–£400. Under Approved Document B, fire-rated plasterboard is required on escape routes, between garages and living spaces, in loft conversions, and in most commercial partitions. Under Approved Document E, acoustic plasterboard is required between dwellings.

Many homes in the Fens (March, Whittlesey, Chatteris, Ramsey) sit below the water table and are at risk of salt damp, which must be treated before any dry lining. Older central Peterborough terraces in PE1–PE4 are typically solid-wall construction; internal insulation via PIR-backed plasterboard is usually the most cost-effective route to improving wall U-values and EPC ratings. Conservation areas in Peterborough city centre, parts of Stamford, and central Cambridge require consent for some materials and finishes.
